Rev. Thomas Mooren, OFM Cap lectured on Islamic Culture and Civilization at Saint Mary’s University for a period of two weeks from May 5 to 14, 2009. The course serves to enhance/enrich the learnings/knowledge of the participants on Islamic Culture and Civilization in order to understand better our Muslim brothers and sisters. This move by SMU is in line with the Holy Pope’s proclamation of unity and peace among Christians and non-Christians.

A total of 21 enrollees composed of students and teachers attended the morning and afternoon classes.

Fr. Mooren is a Professor from Saint Paul University, Ottawa, Canada. He holds the following academic degrees: Licentiate in Theology at the Catholic Institute of Paris, Doctorate in Theology at the Catholic Institute of Paris, and DEA at Sorbonne, Paris. He has been a visiting Professor at the Capuchin Philosophical College, Andhra Pradesh, India; Washington Theological Union; PISAI, Rome, Italy; Catholic University of Sumatra; Capuchin Theologate, Munster, Germany; Catholic Theological Institute, Port Moresby, Papua, New Guinea; and Maryhill School of Theology, Quezon City, Philippines. He is a member of European Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1993 to present. He has already written, translated and published many books and articles, the latest of which is “War and Peace in Monotheistic Religions.”
