5 Marians join 2010 ICFC

By Dr. Eleonor C. Domingo
Dean, School of Accountancy

Three students from the School of Accountancy and two from the School of Business joined the 12th Intercollegiate Finance Competition (ICFC) held at the University of Cordilleras, Baguio City, September 17.

Ms. Leiden Buted, Ms. Joyce Dalay and Mr. Emerson Zuzon, all BSA-5 students, Mr. Nicorey Calma and Ivy Ruth Habbiling, both BSBA-FM seniors, represented SMU against 66 other schools from all over the country.

Widely recognized as the country's toughest and most prestigious academic competition in Economics, Banking and Finance, ICFC is held simultaneously in 8 different venues representing 8 different clusters in the Philippines.

Despite not being included in the top 20, SMU participants compete well in the Luzon 2 cluster which is composed of 9 schools placing 3rd in the Easy round, 5th in the Moderate round and 4th in the Difficult round.

“It (ICFC) is a fulfilling experience even though we didn't qualify for the top 20 because considering the fact that we only have a couple of days of preparation while other schools had 1 year, we still outwitted them,” Zuzon said in an interview.

“Magagaling ang students natin pero the span of time to review and prepare is limited that's why they weren't able to make it, ” commented Mrs. Romina Lagac, coach of the representatives together with Mrs. Loreta Garlitos, both from the Business Administration Department.
