Gallato & Boceta Present Studies at the 32nd Annual International Certification (Learning Styles) Institute, New York

The Officer-in-Charge of Saint Mary's University International Center for the Study of Teaching-Learning Styles (ICSTLS), Dr. Anita V. Boceta and the Dean of the School of Business, Dr. Cristina G. Gallato, both Certified International Trainers of Teaching-Learning Styles, Dunn and Dunn Model (TLS DDM) have presented their studies during the 32nd Annual International Certification Institute, "Differentiating Instruction through Students' Individual Learning Styles” held at Walter Panas High School, Lakeland Central School District, Westchester, New York on July 15, 2009. Dr. Boceta's study was entitled “Extent of Teaching and Learning Styles – Dunn and Dunn Model (TLS DDM) Program Implementation among Trained Teachers of Cagayan Valley,” while Dr. Gallato's study was entitled “The Effects of Team Learning Strategy, Intake and Seating Arrangement on the Academic Performance of Financial Management Students of SMU.”

This is the second time that faculty members from SMU present papers at the Learning Styles Institute. The first time was in July 2004 when Dr. Mercelita V. Orden and Dr. Anita V. Boceta presented their studies at the said Institute.

The Institute is co-sponsored by the Lakeland Central School District Center for Teaching and Learning Styles and St. John's University's Center for the Study of Teaching and Learning Styles. This year, it was attended by about 160 plus participants throughout the USA including other countries like Denmark, Sweden, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, and the Philippines.

After the Institute, Dr. Boceta and Dr. Gallato represented SMU in the Board meeting of the International Learning Styles Network (ILSN) on July 18, 2009. In that board meeting, two (2) centers namely, 1) International Learning Styles Australia and 2) Bilfen Schools, Istanbul, Turkey, were given permanent status while two (2) centers namely, 1) Center for Learning and Teaching Strategies in Denmark CUBION a/s and 2) Eton International School, Philippines were granted provisional status. Dr. Lois Faivre of Lakeland Central School District presented the report/documentation of the requirements for becoming a Learning Style Demonstration School of Excellence. The board approved its application as a Learning Style Demonstration School of Excellence.

Ms. Susan Rundle was officially designated by the ILSN founder, Dr. Rita Dunn, who is very ill, to take over the reins of the organization.
